...etc

Just briefly, I always seem to find I have the most interesting conversations about spirituality and faith with non-christian people.

Me too, Fiona! One of my favourites is the guy in my health food shop who believes some really way out whacky New Age stuff. And yet conversations with him just bring home to me once again how much we have in common with each other even though we see things so differently. So often we are exclaiming, "Yes!" to each other.

It's sad that Christians have been so oppressed under the weight of knowing doctrine correctly, and under fear of being sent to hell. I can't help but feel so often we are straining gnats and swallowing camels because of the shitty way we've been taught to be.

And yet the beautiful reality of things still sits there to be discovered :)

...and while we're trying to "get our massage across" we're missing the fact that people are actually out there asking all sorts of interesting stuff that give us a massive opportunity to engage in a genuine way. Their valid questions go unanswered and they drift off unsatisfied because we think we're selling them the answer, when in actual fact, we haven't even listened to their question.

We're all on a search for truth, my friend right now is saying she wants something that unifies her, gives her peace. I don't know whether to be honest of honest. Unifying, in one way, yes, but via a very shaky path. Still interesting nonetheless, and forces me to look at my beliefs and how they can be real to other people in different circumstances.

I agree, totally and fulsomely.

I was never any good at "getting the message across". Always felt like I was trying to sell Amway, even when I thought it was how I should be doing it :)
